Sometimes there can be none or very few design features that give an element depth, such as drop shadows, curves, and gradients. Depth can also be easily created by overlapping the grid, and placing some elements over or under others. With the design below, simply making the content area overlap the rest of the areas to seem bigger, makes it seem closer — giving the design depth, with merely flat elements. A slight drop shadow is used in this design for more emphasis, but there are also plenty of examples that create depth in a similar way, without this added design touch.

Aspiring radio broadcasters, listen up. Before deciding to make the ultimate leap into this career path, you should have a clear understanding of the expectations required of the job, and how to work your way up to being a popular on air personality.

Grids can help make drawing copies of pictures, and even freehand drawings, a much more manageable task. With a system of grids, you can break down a complex drawing into a set of very simple ones.

For many years, long multiplication was the standard way to teach children how to multiply two large numbers, but now schools are beginning to favor the grid method.

For many years, long multiplication was the standard way to teach children how to multiply two large numbers, but now schools are beginning to favor the grid method. This method splits both numbers into smaller sums -- multiplying the hundreds, tens and units separately before adding together the totals.
